Irene Reid was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. She sang in church and in high school in Georgia, and moved to New York City in 1947 after her mother died. Near the end of 1947, she tied out for an amateur contest at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, and won the competition for five straight weeks. Soon after she was offered a spot as the featured vocalist with Dick Vance at the Savoy Ballroom, which she held from 1948-1950.
From 1961-62, Reid sang with Count Basie's orchestra, and recorded for Verve Records. She later performed in a Broadway production of the musical The Wiz. Ms. Reid recorded in the 1970s and 80s, and launched a comeback near the end of that decade. She appeared at the Savannah Jazz Festival in 1991, 1994, and 1996, and continued releasing albums on Savant Records in the 1990s and 2000s.

Chedda., Danny Boy, Meli'sa Morgan, Vaughn Harper, Johnny Kemp, Alyson Williams, Norman Connors
“ During the month of March 2009, Chedda Ent. and Great Women In Music paid tribute to all WOMEN by celebrating Women’s History Month. This hot month long party series was cosponsored by 98.7 KISS FM and BLACK OPAL COSMETICS.
The celebration began on March 5, 2009 with a salute to Flo Anthony, editor and chief of BLACK NOIR and TOY BOX Magazines. Flo’s night was powerfully exciting. The crowd danced to the music of special guest DJ Lady D. Wells as the top promoters from all over New York (including Maxwell from Voodoo Lounge)

On March 12, 2009 “After Work Thursdays” hosted the “SEXIEST LADY CONTEST’.The winner received a $500 gift bag from BLACK
OPAL COSMETICS and fun was had by all as one of the male
party goers selected the SEXIEST LADY from the crowd. On
March 19, 2009 the First Lady of Def Jam Records Alyson Williams brought the house down with her classic R&B hit tune “Just Call My Name”.It was a star studded affair as Johnny Kemp, Meli’sa Morgan, Norman Connors, Vaughn Harper and DJ Hollywood (just to mention a few) stopped by to celebrate Alyson and the importance of Women’s History Month.

The stunning group of events came to a climatic end on March 26, as “AFTER WORK THURSDAYS” partied with a purpose in solute of MODEL, PARTY PROMOTER and AIDS ACTIVIST Maria Davis. She is the founder of “CAN’T’ BE SILENCED’, a charity dedicated to children living with AIDS, as well as a national television spokes person for Bristol Myers-Squibb, (a pharmaceutical company that manufactures drugs that treat HIV and AIDS). Her lists of accomplishments are endless and amazing but the Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means Charles B. Rangal did an excellent job in chronicling Maria’s astonishing life."Maria make us all want to do more to help wit the AIDS epidimic"
